Significance of til (seasome) and gud (jaggery) on Makarsankrant 
Makarsankrant is celebrated in various states in various manner. But if we see the the til (seasome) and gud (jaggery) are must in every state.
By offering seasome as ‘’dan’’ (donating) , eating til with gud(jiggery) , applying seasome oil while bathing are common things people do on Makarsankrat
What is the singnificance of it?

The elder people and some references in veda state that
Using sesame seeds eliminates sins. On this day those who apply sesame seed oil and utane to the body, bathe in water mixed with sesame seeds, drink water mixed with sesame seeds, perform a sacrificial fire, make an offering of sesame seeds and make similar use of sesame seeds, are liberated of all sins.
It is clear that they wanted to stress that use of seasome is must in any form, which must have logical reason for one’s health too as follows
· . seasome has ushn guna (heat / high calorie) which is the need in winter
· jaggery too has ushna guna
· By applying seasome oil and eating various food from seasome and jaggery one can achive the ushn guna to fight in winter
· According to ayurveda in this rutu (season), the agni( digestive power) is high compared to other seasons, so one can easily digest the seasome and jiggery and food having properties like that , which otherwise advised to avoid in other season.
· But one have to think about ones digestion power and should not exceed the limit which may further cause the pitta prakop( increased pitta dosha )
